Today's KSTSK session was a truly gut busting Kata Competence and Fitness session. We decided during the warm up that Kata was definitely what we wanted and needed to work on. So we started at Taikyoku Shodan and grouped the successive kata in the syllabus into 3's (apart from one round) and performed each kata in the round at near full speed with no rest in between. Each round was separated by a 1 minute break.

This was our schedule:

The two kata we didn't perform but do feature on our syllabus are Gojushiho Dai and Gojushiho Sho. Every round was tough, but the ones that I found particularly tiring were rounds 3 and 5.

Then onto the Tabata fitness section. We set the timer to run 16 rounds in total - 20 secs on, 10 secs off.

We alternated between a set of hall sprints on the balls of the feet and a freestyle combination shadow style. For every sprint round we had to reach the same distance along the floor and every freestyle round had to include kicks.

After picking myself off of the floor, I loosened off with some light kicking along the wall.

Overall, it was a brilliant session that we will repeat (with some slight adjustments here and there) again soon!
