It was nice to be back in the usual training hall. There's lots of room, although it was rather warm in there today!
 
We structured our session on intervals and ensured we kept working at the higher end.
 
We used the length of the hall to drill single kicks - travelling from one side of the hall to the other and back again takes about 35 steps. Immediately after this we performed a Heian Kata, then it was back to drilling the next kick. We did this for 5 rounds in total.
It also seemed like a good idea to add in a Tabata drill after round 3 - so we did!
 
Round 1: Front kick X 35 followed by Heian Shodan
Round 2: Side Thrust Kick X 35 followed by Heian Nidan
Round 3: Roundhouse Kick X 35 followed by Heian Sandan
 
Tabata: Sprints, Jumping jacks, Free sparring attacks, Free sparring defences, Sprints, Jumping jacks, Free sparring attacks & Free sparring defences.
 
Round 4: Reverse roundhouse kick X 18 Then Spinning reverse roundhouse kick X 18 followed by Heian Yondan
Round 5: Back Kick X 35 followed by Heian Godan
 
 
We then stretched whilst we recovered. Then onto Gojushiho Sho practice, both slow and fast - then the same with Sochin kata. I wanted to practice Sochin on Wednesday at KSTSK Welwyn Garden City but ran out of time - so I made it a priority today.
 
Then to finish we did another Tabata drill:
 
Press ups 1, Sit ups 1, Squats, Stepping lunges, Press ups 2, Sit ups 2, Squats & Stepping lunges.
 
Over all it was a great session. The slow controlled kicking practice we did last week helped today in the volume based kicking drills today.
